The Grid is Extremely Old and Out Dated
Now, you’re probably thinking “why should I go solar?”, one of many reasons is that the power grid is extremely old. Due to its age, it takes billions of dollars to maintain the grid. In the past decade, over $20 billion was spent fixing the grid due to its old age for upgrades and wildfires the grid causes. But guess who ends up having to pay for it via their electric bill? Yep, that’s right, you!
A great example of this was when property owners in Palos Verdes were given just ONE day’s notice by Edison that their power was going to shut off indefinitely. Edison decided the grid was too dangerous to operate due “constant moving land in the area” (Read Here), this left 140 homes without power indefinitely and eventually led to even more homes in the neighborhood in this same situation.
When you go solar, you can protect the risk of an emergency by getting “off grid”, which means you produce your own electricity on site. Your extra power you do not use will go into your battery for storage and kick in whenever the power grid goes out, thus making your home self-sufficient. For homes that got their electricity through solar with the battery storage, they were safe from the ongoing power shut-offs.
We’re Over Paying Delivery Fees
Additionally, some don’t know that California actually gets our power shipped from out of state, from Nevada and Arizona. It’s extremely expensive to ship power from out of state, you will see this as delivery and transmission fees on your bill. It accounts for about 30-50% of your bill, our goal is to get rid of those when your home becomes self-sufficient.
Rates Increasing, Again??
Edison also sent out a rate increase warning of 23% over 2024 and also in most cases doubles your rate at peak times from 4-9pm, right when the family is all getting home to cook, help the kids with homework, watch some TV to wind down… of course! Our goal at Sunrun is to lock in your bill so it doesn’t increase like Edison and LADWP, and in some cases we can even lower your bill, with one singular rate. This way you’re not having to guess how much it will be every month and you won’t have to worry about when to use the washer/dryer in your house.
So, now that you’re more versed in the many reasons why solar may be the answer you’ve been looking for, now you may be asking, “Why Sunrun?”
Many Choices to Fit Your Family’s Needs
You may have heard that solar panels cost $40,000 to put on your home, and it just didn’t seem to make sense to spend that much money at one time. Luckily, while we still have the buying option if you would like, we also have an option for you to pay for ONLY the power that is produced from the panels, just like you only pay for the power the power lines produce from Edison. The install, equipment and maintenance are no cost to you, the property owner, if your home qualifies.
Given the recent political climate and state incentives, you may or may not have increasingly noticed all the talk about solar panels lately. Whether you have or have not, I have teamed up with Jed to be your local Solar expert. In next month’s newsletter, I will do a deep dive into FAQ’s when making the switch to solar, so be sure to keep a look out for that! In the meantime, you can contact me with any questions you have or happy to help with a free home survey!
